Short re-cap of my day today:
Let me know if you know anyone who’s got a couple of Prince tickets. E-mail is firstname.lastname@example.org - ask for my number. I’ve missed Prince 3 times in a row and now he’s in my hometown. Absolutely CANNOT pass this up!
—Muhammad Ali (When We Were Kings, 1996)
I feel a little better about myself knowing I have less than a handful of those.
A song like this cannot be fabricated. This is true, honest, and morbidly beautiful. Very inspirational.
“De-loused in the Comatorium” is entirely based on the life and death of a former friend of the band Julio Venegas AKA the character Cerpin Taxt. Julio jumped from an overpass into traffic in El Paso in ‘96 after awakening from a self-induced coma. He had injected himself with a mixture of morphine and rat poison.
The attempt lands him in a week-long coma during which he experiences visions of humanity and his own psyche. Upon waking, he is dissatisfied with the real world and jumps to his death.
This song in particular focuses on his fall, and is the only song in the entire album that’s based on the reality of Julio’s life.
He saw amazing things in his coma that he couldn’t ever see in real life. So he jumped.
Reformatting my Tumblr as of today. Sometimes I think too much about what you will think if I post this, if I say this, or if I post that. Today, I just don’t give a shit anymore. Be your own online persona - whoever it may be!
Let the explicit tumbl-ing commence!
12:36 PM. Still in bed. I got up at 9:40 this morning too. Get your shit together, Carina. Make a list. Remember the list. Do the list.
Now where do I start…
Saw an Enter the Dragon poster at a vintage toy store yesterday for $90. Gotta have some Bruce Lee in my life.
